Bedbugs
Overview
Bedbugs can be concerning, but are not know to carry diseases. They are more of an annoyance than anything else. They can be hard to get rid of once they are infested in a home. The Shawnee County Health Agency can provide information and resources on bedbugs.

Prevention
The best way to prevent a bedbug infestation is to do regular checks for signs of bedbugs. Signs of bedbugs include:
  • the bed bugs’ exoskeletons after molting,
  • bed bugs in the fold of mattresses and sheets,
  • rusty–colored blood spots due to their blood-filled fecal material that they excrete on the mattress or nearby furniture, and
  • a sweet musty odor.
