Allison Alejos

Title: Director, Local Health Department, Shawnee County

Education & Post-Graduation Employment
Allison Alejos, RN, BSN graduated from Washburn University School of Nursing in 1996.  Immediately after graduation she went to work as a charge nurse in a long-term care facility.  During her employment at the facility she served in various capacities and ultimately became the Director of Nursing.  


In 1998, she accepted a position as the Tuberculosis Control Nurse for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  In this role she worked with tuberculosis (TB) care providers and local health departments throughout the state providing case management on all active TB cases as well as providing education to various audiences. 

Starting Work at the Health Agency
In 2001, Allison accepted a position at the Shawnee County Health Agency as the Division Manager for Adult Field Services.  Through a variety of programs, the Adult Field Services Division provides services to the aging population throughout Shawnee County including home health, personal care assistance, homemaking assistance, foot care and adult health clinics. 


Promotions & Responsibilities
In May 2006, Allison was promoted to Deputy Director of Local Public Health Services.  In this position Allison provides oversight for a wide range of public health programs.  Program areas include:

  •  Child Care Licensing
  •  Immunizations
  •  Communicable Disease
  •  Project ACCESS / Gatekeepers
  •  Environmental Health
  •  Sexually Transmitted Diseases

  •  Home Care Assistance
  •  WIC

In April 2011, Allison was promoted to Director of the Local Health Department at the Shawnee County Health Agency.  In this position, Allison is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight for the activities and programs within the local health department.
